Catching Up

Fall is finally here! Today we decided to go up to the glass hallway and do some Yoga stretches   to get our blood pumping and our minds ready for learning.

Notice our use of technology? Ha!

Here is a video of the Seven Little Monsters poem we memorized this week!

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at conferences next week. There will be a book fair in the library during conferences. The students were able to look around the book fair today and are excited about all the book choices. Christmas is just around the corner!
The Halloween parade to Tesson Heights will be so much fun next Wednesday. I hope everyone saw the Costume Guidelines that were sent home by Dr. Morgan yesterday. Please have your child BRING their costume in a bag marked with their name. We will have time to change into our costumes before the party. I would like to ask (as a special favor to me) that no one comes to school wearing hair color. Since we do not dress up until the afternoon, it is a huge distraction the rest of the day. Thank you so much for your help! Happy Fall!!

Powder Valley

We had a wonderful time at Powder Valley today. The deer were very cooperative. My small group saw four deer and several squirrels. The students identified many different kinds of tree leaves and signs of fall. Thanks to all the chaperones who came along.(six in all) The students were well behaved and wonderful ambassadors for the Lindbergh School District.
Picnicing in the Butterfly Garden.

It was a little chilly, but we had fun.

Inside Powder Valley Nature Center.

This threesome is looking through the trees at three deer. They were very close .

FYI

Our trip to Powell Hall was wonderful. The students all looked so nice. They were delightfully impressed by the red velvet chairs and crystal chandeliers. I wish you were allowed to take photos inside the concert hall. I love the look of wonder on their faces as they listen to the instruments.  The program was a Dr. Sues story, Green Eggs and Ham. It was hands down the best kinderconcert I have ever attended.

Just a heads up for next week. We will be going to Powder Valley for our nature walk next Thursday, Nov. 18th Whomever checked on the permission form that they would like to chaperone is welcome to go ahead and meet us at Powder Valley right outside the nature center a little after 9:00a.m. (We are loading the bus at 9:00a.m.) We have asked the students to bring a sack lunch that day so we can have a picnic outside when we return to school. They may also bring a towel to sit on. We will NOT take the lunches with us, we will eat when we return to school.

Also, next Friday is a half day. The students will be released at 11:50a.m. No lunch will be served.

Custodian Appreciation Day

Friday was Custodian Appreciation Day. The custodian who takes care of our wing of Kennerly is Mr. Nielson. We really love Mr. Nielson. He encourages the students to do their best in school. The students all know who he is and talk to him. Mr. Nielson takes wonderful care of our classroom, hallways and restrooms. Thank you Mr. Nielson!!

Fire Safety and Mr. Barger

Today we read a story about a little girl who wanted to be a firefighter when she grew up. One of the parents whose children go to Kennerly came by to speak to  the class. His name is Mr. Barger, and he is a firefighter/paramedic. The homework he gave them was to go home and discuss what they had learned with their parents. They were also supposed to come up with a fire safety plan for the family and have a practice fire drill at home. Here are the photos from today.

Just an update

We are having a great week in room 112. This week we finished chapter 4 in math and are beginning chapter 5 which will teach new strategies for solving addition problems.

Tomorrow is supposed to be much colder than today. I told the students not to wear shorts tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Our field trip to Powell Hall is scheduled for next Wednesday morning. I have received ALL permission slips for this trip.

Today you should receive a permission slip for a field trip to Powder Valley on the 18th. This is a FREE trip, thanks to PTP. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!!
